MCS certification for Baxi low carbon products

Baxi Solarflo in-roof solar panels, Ambiflo air source heat pumps, Baxi Multi-heat biomass and Baxi Solo Innova biomass have all achieved Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certification.

MCS has been designed by Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to evaluate microgeneration products and installers to ensure they meet robust criteria. The aims of the scheme are to help establish the quality and reliability of the burgeoning microgeneration industry, to provide consumer confidence that both products and installers reach the exacting standards required and make a substantial contribution towards cutting the UK's dependency on fossil fuels and its carbon dioxide emissions.

The scheme will underpin the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, which is split into two phases. Phase 1 will cover funding for households until February 2011, when the Renewable Heat Incentive will be introduced. Under Phase 2, only public sector and not-for-profit organisations are eligible for grants of up to 50 per cent of the total cost of installations of up to a maximum of 50kW electricity and 300kW heat.

The Baxi Solarflo solar thermal system is a complete package including in-roof flat plate solar collector panels which can be built into the structure of the roof and lie flush with the tiles, solar hydraulic pump station, solar controller and all the ancillary accessories needed to complete the installation. It is compatible with Heatrae Sadia's range of solar cylinders.

Baxi Multi Heat biomass ideally uses wood pellets as fuel, and is available in outputs of 15, 25 and 40 kW.  It has the option of various hopper sizes and an automatic ash removing system. 

It uses an auger to transport the fuel from the hopper at the back of the unit to the combustion chamber, where it is mixed with precise volumes of air delivered via a modulating fan.  This ensures maximum combustion efficiency is maintained at all times.

Baxi Solo Innova biomass is a log burning stove that is available in outputs of 20 to 50 kW. It is designed to be installed in conjunction with a buffer vessel. These are particularly suited to larger (three bedrooms and larger) homes in rural areas where there is space for the necessary plant.

Baxi Ambiflo air source heat pumps are available in outputs of 7.5, 9.0 and 10.5 kW. They are perfect for new developments, refurbishment and, in some circumstances, retrofitting to existing systems. Baxi Ambiflo is perfect for well insulated properties with underfloor heating or low temperature radiator systems, especially in areas with no mains gas supply.

Under typical conditions it will operate at efficiencies between 200 and 400 per cent. This means that for every kW of electrical energy input, it will provide between 2kW and 4kW of heat energy output. It can offer substantial carbon savings compared to other heating sources, such as electric storage heaters and oil boilers.

Baxi Ecogen micro-CHP is also undergoing the rigorous certification process, ready for its commercial launch in spring 2010.
